Abstract:

Quantifications of fluorescence imaging in biological tissues can be modeled by an inverse problem for the coupled radiative transfer equations for excitation and emission fields. Considering the relative small size of the fluorophores in biological tissue, we unify the radiative transfer equation models with two kinds of inversion input data into a coupled diffusion system of impedance boundary condition in half space for the average field with extra boundary data. This inverse problem is linearized, with error estimates both on the excitation field quantifying the model approximation and on the solution to the inverse problem. Then, based on the explicit expression of excitaion and emission field, the identifiability of the absorption coefficient of fluorophores by the linearized inverse problem is rigorously analyzed, revealing the physical essence of the three dimensional imaging model by diffusive equation.
